When this dust absorbs moisture from the air, it can become conductive. If dust crosses between two live components inside the wall switch, it can create a conductive path, causing a short circuit.

Dust accumulation also affects the contact quality between the internal contacts of the wall switch. Originally clean metal contacts may become covered in dust, increasing contact resistance. When current flows through them, localized high temperatures can be generated, potentially damaging the insulation layer or even causing a fire. As a result, the wall switch not only becomes malfunctioning but also poses a serious safety hazard.
