If a gas leak occurs in a household gas system, the gas and air slowly accumulate indoors, creating an explosive mixture. When the leaked gas reaches a certain concentration level, the electric arc generated during operation of Wall Switch can easily ignite the surrounding mixed gas, potentially causing a fire or explosion.
Once the leaked flammable gas mixes with air, a wall switch can become an ignition source if an electrical spark occurs. It is noteworthy that the tiny spark generated by such an arc at the moment the switch spring contacts and disconnects is sufficient to ignite the accumulated flammable gas in a deflagration.
