Cold Shrink Tube
Cold shrink tubing generally refers to tubular cable accessories using cold shrink technology. It is generally used together with cold shrink terminals and has insulation, sealing, protection and other functions. Cold shrink technology is also called pre-expansion technology. Because it shrinks at room temperature by elastic retraction force, compared with heat shrink insulation tubes, cold shrink tubes are more convenient to operate. It does not need to be heated by fire. Just gently pull out the internal supporting plastic spiral strips (supports), so it is very suitable for outdoor use. Common materials for cold shrink tubes are silicone rubber and EPDM rubber, which are widely used in communication base stations, power protection, and medium and high voltage cable terminal joints. So what should be paid attention to during the installation of cold shrink tubes? How to correctly install cold shrink tubes.
1. Cold Shrink Cable Accessories Preparations before installation:
Confirm that the model specifications match the cable to be installed; confirm that the accessories are complete and prepare the tools required for installation;
Read the installation instructions and drawings; ensure that the installation environment meets the requirements of moisture and dust prevention. It is not suitable for construction when it rains or when the dust is too large.
2. Cable pretreatment before installation of cold shrink tube:
Check whether the cable is damp and water-influent; clean and straighten the installed part of the cable; if there are scratches on the outer surface of the cable, especially within 20mm of the shielding port, use sandpaper to polish it smooth to prevent residual air gaps; it is not allowed to use the detergent that has been used to clean the metal part to clean the insulation part; the metal part of the cable should be flat, smooth, without oxidation, and should not have burrs, gaps, flanges, etc. If the above conditions are found, it can be treated with a file or sandpaper and cleaned.
3. Installation of cold shrink tube:
Since it is impossible to know whether the position is accurate from the outside after installation, it is necessary to strictly follow the steps specified in the installation instructions; do a good job of fixing during installation to prevent displacement during installation; if there is waterproof tape or foam strip, avoid excessive exposure of waterproof tape or foam strip; do not tie wire or tie wire or other hard materials outside the installed cold shrink tube to avoid scratches.
The above is all about cold shrink tubes to be discussed today.
